Haven’t heard of Manda yet? You probably will soon as she is bursting into the Adelaide dance scene with her unique, quirky energy and style.
Manda, a former student of the Gravity Dance Full-time Commercial Dance course, tuned her abilities working with industry professionals Daniel Jaber, Christine Underdown, Lisa Griffiths, Aidan Munn and Larissa Mcgowan. It was there she underwent the discipline and insight she was craving that opened her mind to new dance possibilities, and since then she has been edging her way towards bigger and bigger things.
Manda recently won South Australia’s RAW Performing Artist of the year 2014 which in response has opened up a burgeoning platter of exciting new opportunities to her.
She has worked hard to establish her own unique style; an eclectic hybrid of hip-hop and contemporary as one. Having grown up in a musical family shows as a huge influence on her life. This is very obvious in her choreography, as it often seems to be at one with the music.
“I am fully controlled by the music. I have no conscious choice but to dance”, she says. She also mixes her own music, featuring her singing, making her performances truly personal and original. Her vibrant character and stage presence makes her incredibly entertaining as you watch her powerful energy get thrown across the stage.
Manda teaches kids Hip-Hop for Mitcham Dance, Hip-Hop/ Contemporary at the amazing purpose built Stomping Ground Studios, Freestyle classes at the DIY space Mad Mouse Alley, and is soon starting up freestyle classes for kids. She is currently training to be a Gyrotonic® instructor at the brand new studio in Hyde Park called “The Aligned Body.”
Needless to say, she has something for all movers of Adelaide.
Look out for her name in the coming months as Manda has not one but three big shows coming up this year. Check out her website for more info.
