Artistic Director of Expressions Dance Company, Natalie Weir, nominated for 2014 Helpmann Award
Brisbane-based contemporary dance company, Expressions Dance Company’s Artistic Director, Natalie Weir was honoured with a nomination for the 2014 Helpmann Awards.
Ms Weir has been nominated for Best Choreography in a Dance or Physical Theatre Production for her work on When Time Stops in 2013, produced by Expressions Dance Company (EDC) and Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and presented by EDC and QPAC in association with Brisbane Festival.
When Time Stops’ composer Iain Grandage also received a nomination for Best Original Score for his 60 minute composition.
“I am very honoured to have been nominated for a Helpmann Award for When Time Stops,” said Ms Weir. “I am very proud of this work performed by Expressions Dance Company’s dancers and Camerata Strings of St Johns and extend my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to them and the creative team, Bill Haycock, David Walters and Brendan Joyce.”
The annual Helpmann Awards recognise distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia’s live performance sectors, including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, cabaret, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre.
Last night’s nominations bring the tally of Helpmann Award nominations for Expressions Dance Company to seven, with the company winning two awards in 2011 for Where the Heart Is.
