Queensland’s Expressions Dance Company will once again host the Brisbane Contemporary Dance Intensive (BCDI) in September.
Now in its fifth year, this biannual event is regarded as one of Australia’s best training programs in contemporary dance, led by a team of specially selected professional dancers and choreographers from around the country.
“The BCDI has become a highlight in EDC’s calendar,” said EDC’s Artistic Director Natalie Weir. “The intensive workshops are designed to prepare up-and-coming dancers for a career in dance with an intense focus on contemporary dance, its techniques and the industry.”
The Spring BCDI is divided into two programs. A pre-tertiary training program for 13-17 year olds is designed to give greater confidence and an edge for auditions and is ideal for dancers preparing for tertiary training, while the tertiary program for emerging dancers aged 17 and above is designed to create pathways into the dance industry and focuses on developing a unique style as an artist.
Acclaimed dancers Lizzie Vilmanis, Riannon McLean and Carol Wellman Kelly will join EDC dancers Elise May, Jack Ziesing, Benjamin Chapman, Rebecca Hall, Daryl Brandwood and Michelle Barnett to deliver the workshops with participants learning some of the repertoire from the most recent EDC production, The Red Shoes.
For the second time only, EDC’s Spring BCDI will take place in the heart of Brisbane at EDC’s home at the Judith Wright Centre for Contemporary Arts in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane from Tuesday 23 to Saturday 27 September.
Spaces are limited to 15 participants per program and entry is by application only. For more information or to apply, visit expressionsdancecompany.org.au or call EDC on 07 3257 4222.
