Paniyiri 2016 – A cultural delight in Brisbane

This was my first venture to Brisbane’s famous Paniyiri Festival. Sunday marked the 40th anniversary since a group of community minded individuals from the Greek community put this event together. I must say that I was astounded at how much fun was to be had. Each stallholder ran their stall with the sole aim to foster change in their community or support a charitable cause. Very noble.

The entertainment was non-stop and so diverse. From cooking demonstrations to dancing – they had it all. I was fortunate enough to meet cultural ambassador, Effie. What a delight …

You can tell that Effie takes her role seriously and it’s delightful that she takes time out to explain her culture and heritage to fellow Australians.

I tried honey puffs for the first time and learned about Hellenic idealogy. It was a great day. The day culminated with a meet and greet with Luke and Cody from House Rules and Pippa and George from Home and Away.

Watch the video, it was a great day …

Next year make sure you visit the festival and grab a handful of Honey Puff’s for me.
